CHOIR PROGRAMME

We meet at 7.30 pm on Wednesdays in the Central Methodist Church, Dingley Hall,
where new members are most welcome.

History

This choir was started in 1969 by a group of friends known as "Launceston Methodist Male Voice Choir" with a membership of 12 singers.

The present MD, John Beare, took over in 1982. In 1992 the name was changed to "Launceston Male Voice Choir" with the thought of appealing to a wider pool of singers. It wasn't until 1999 that membership grew however and there are now 36 friendly choristers.

What we do now

In 2002 the choir ventured 'abroad' for the first time - to the Isle of Wight - and in April 2004 visited Wales for a concert with Llanfair Caereinion Male Voice Choir, who returned our visit and came to Launceston in October. The Choir continues to give concerts in Churches, Chapels and other venues in the Launceston area and beyond and has raised money for charities such as Children's Hospice South West, Parkinson Disease Society and the Motor Neurone Disease Society. We organised a combined concert to raise money for Shelterbox, which supplied tents and survival kits for the Tsunami victims.

The choir averages 16 - 22 concerts for charities each year.
