The Choir is a friendly group of singers, currently comprising 30 members. We enjoy our singing and social activities and would be delighted to welcome new members. ABOUT THE CHOIR Tintagel Orpheus Male Voice Choir was formed in 1929 by a Welshman, Jack Thomas, who moved to Tintagel to quarry slate and was choirmaster until his death in 1955. David Sherbird became the Choir's musical director in 2004. In November 2007 Penny Barclay became the Musical Director for the Choir. Penny Barclay is an experienced teacher of the piano, cello and academic music. She studied at the Purcell School of Music and then at the Royal Academy of Music. She has a fine reputation for quality work with students and adults where attention to detail is of key importance. Her specialist areas include chamber music and small vocal ensembles. Accompanist, Alan Dawe, joined in 2008 after having moved from Newquay to Camelford. Under his professional name of Alan St. Clair he has spent a lifetime working in the entertainment and tourism industry as a dancer, singer, DJ, piano bar entertainer, cruise director and corporate events manager. The Choir are indeed fortunate to have such talented and accomplished Musical Director and Accompanist. The Choir is much travelled, having sung in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the South of France. They have sung 5 times in Liverpool (in both Cathedrals), Warwick, Cardiff, Bristol, Wigan and 3 times with the Federation's massed choir concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The Choir has also combined with other Cornish Male Choirs on various occasions and took part in the BBC Songs of Praise from Truro Cathedral. In the 5 visits to the Cornwall County Music Festival in Truro, Tintagel Orpheus Male Voice Choir has managed to win the Championship Cup for Male Choirs under 40 members, on 4 occasions.
