CHOIR PROGRAMME

St Austell Male Choir is a lively and forward-looking group of singers who welcome new members. We are always interested in joint concerts and we are in the process of arranging two for the new year - one in the west and one in mid Cornwall. We like to travel - sometimes enjoying a full weekend away.

We meet at the Seventhday Adventist Chapel, Daniels Lane, St Austell. Please call Glyn Wilkinson, Choir Secretary, to find out more about us.

A Brief History of St Austell Male Choir

St Austell Male Choir was formed in March 1993 by Alfons Rebers, who was the choir's first chairman. Hildegarde Craig was our first musical director with Ruth Johns as accompanist. The choir soon went from strength to strength.

Our present musical director, Paul Mitchell, took up the position in 1994 and continued to maintain and improve the choir's standards and achievements. Some of our memorable events include winning the Wadebridge and Truro Spires Festivals, the latter on two occasions. We performed a short concert in the north transept of York Minster. Although the choir is still young, we have been on three concert tours. The choir has been invited guests of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at one of their recent visits.

Paul enjoys writing and arranging music for the choir, assisted by our accompanist. Our repertoire is an eclectic one which our audiences seem to appreciate and really enjoy. There are many pieces they have yet to hear any other choir sing. Some of the pieces we sing have roots in Jazz, Rock, Jive, Gospel as well as the more modern 'pop'. As with any other choir we do sing some of the more traditional choral pieces.

The choir boasts many first class soloists including Lyn Hallam and Jean Camps as resident guest soloists.

We now number around 28 singers, but as always we have room for more members. So if you would like to sing with us call Glyn on the telephone number(s) or by email as shown above.

The choir's main objective is to keep Cornish Male Voice singing alive, particularly in the St Austell area.

You can read a report on St Austell Male Voice Choir's success in the 36th Camborne Music Festival, November 2005 in the News Archive section found on News & Notices page.

If there is anyone out there who can sing, then come along and join us! Everyone is welcome, those who can sing and those who aren't sure - welcome all! Contact the Secretary, Glyn Wilkinson (see above).
